Dr Gum is on a well deserved holiday in California. While digging for clams in Pismo Beach, the ‘clam capital of the world’ he uncovers Bugs Bunny. The disoriented rabbit who realizes he did take that wrong turn in Albuquerque asks, “What’s up Doc?” The disgruntled dentist is undergoing a mid life crisis. Bugs cheers him up and suggests he join him in the festivities at the Hearst Castle the following week at a gala dinner. Dr Gum agrees. He rents a plane and lands at the castle’s private airstrip. They meet an ‘A’s list of animated cartoon characters and aging legends of the silver screen. The light hearted merriment soon turns to mayhem following the mysterious death of one of the cartoon characters. The keystone kops are called in to investigate the possibility of a premeditated murder. Many of the socialites, oblivious to the events, simply consider the extended stay during the investigations a generous gesture by the host William ‘Harest.’ Bugs discovers he is the splitting image of the former billionaire in a painting hanging over the mantle. Each guest in turn discloses their whereabouts at the time of the incident during the delectable extended course culinary event. A bad case of food poisoning? Or deliberately introduced? interrupts the interrogation. Dr Gum and Bugs team up to solve this strange sordid social event. They slip out of the proceedings to procure desperately needed meds from a nearby town and discover a big missing piece of the perplexing party puzzler upon their return. Dr Gum has completed the daunting task of writing his 7th national dental board exam in Chicago. Unbeknownst to him he is deliberately drugged by a pair of man eaters. He stumbles across the Michigan Ave bridge, then peers into the green Chicago River to reflect on his life. He turns around and is blinded by the bright lights of the Wrigley building then loses his balance and falls into the river. Presumed drowned the dental Board systematically tries to seize his assets and eliminate any traces if his existence. His body surfaces near the Navy Pier. A suicide? Another mafia hit? A custodian, Barney Finnigan, fishes the derelict out of the water and takes him under his wing. The buffoon has complete amnesia yet exhibits an extra ordinary recall as he rattles off countless advertising slogans. Barney figures he can collect and sets up an interview with a top advertising firm in Chicago. Enroute to the interview Barney is killed by a car crossing the intersection. Dr Gum in his amnesic state assumes his identity. During the author’s surgical courses in Toronto during the deadly lightning storm and blackout the story came to him. Dr Gum is discussing the impending opening of the garish renovation to the ROM- Royal Ontario Museum, a bizarre series of aluminum geometric shapes growing from the old original façade like a tumor. ‘Chin’s Crystals’ named after the billionaire Michel Lee Chin, who bequeathed $30 million for the addition. He walked by the museum every day to class before it opened then after it closed upon his return from University classes yet has never set foot inside. The bar-tender at the rooftop terrace at the Park Hyatt Hotel across the street from the ROM explains that there is a rumor circulating that Chin has recovered hundreds of dinosaur eggs off the coast of Costa Rica and brought them back to create one of the best dinosaur displays in N. America. As the lightning storm sweeps across the city, a bright flash startles them. A direct hit on the ROM has unleashed an unbelievable sight. A swarm of raptors have escaped and soon wreak havoc on the entire city and soon spread their reign of terror throughout SE Ontario. The Canadian prime minister Crouton discards the deadly broadcast as a hoax as the predators swim up the Rideau Canal toward the capital. The United States is building up it’s forces at Niagara AFB across L. Ontario poised for a preemptive strike in the event the predators attack. They are startled as a body plummets into the pool, a shocking reminder of the ‘falling man’ and countless others who fell to their deaths as the towers collapsed. The police urge them to stay to identify the body but have to rush to class. The epidemiology class of Dr Pilatius has been cancelled. They decide to venture to the morgue and are shocked to discover their professor was the victim. Suicide? or pushed from the Freedom Tower? They decide to go to La Sapienza University in Rome where he conducted most of his secret research. They meet Francesca in the church while cutting across the largest campus in Europe. They share the awful story. Coincidentally Francesca knows Dr Pilatius from the medical genetic engineering dept. They access his cordoned off lab to retrieve some of their papers and discover some unusual research he was conducting while in a deli off campus. A vehicle crashes into the bistro nearly killing the trio. They see a strange mark on the victim, similar to the ones found on the bodies in the morgue in New York. A sudden change in political climate of a rising political figure, Fortunatius, strikes fear into the hearts of Romans. The leader is the client of Francesca’s fiancé, Umberto, a promising doctor of jurisprudence law student. The upcoming Nuclear Nonproliferative meeting in Mexico City is a promising sign of progress in global disarmament with the impending signature of the Gondwana Treaty by all nations. Of concern is the Caribbean and the questionable Tlatelco Treaty. She asks the president point blank if the US has any nuclear subs in the Caribbean. The president denies, technically correct for the two new class of deep sea attack nuclear subs have slipped through the Windward passage into the Atlantic undetected. A disastrous accident sends the lead sub into the depths of the Puerto Rico trench. The president is informed and secretly sets up a covert CIA operation to recover the sunken sub with the Jamoil Express, a deep sea drilling rig, on duty in Jamaica. Failure is not an option for it could result in a cataclysmic recurrence of a tsunami like tidal wave produced by a ‘Submarine Slide’ deep underwater off San Juan. Will the delicate operation trigger another submarine slide? In 1906 thousands drowned after the tidal wave swept the coastal cities in the Caribbean coincidentally at the time of the great earthquake in San Francisco. Dr Gum and Dr Lear seem to strike up a lucrative business partnership. Serena, his assistant, welcomes him into the practice. During Dr Gum’s absence at a local dental seminar, Dr Lear coaxes Serena to a clandestine meeting. He slips her a new drug he is prescribed to control his alcoholism. An unexpected side effect unleashes a bizarre reaction and subsequent gutting of Dr Gum’s clinic unbeknownst to both intoxicated culprits. In the morning neither can remember what transpired, feeling the first after effects of the experimental drug. Dr Gum launches a police investigation to no avail. The macabre mayhem in his clinic remains a mystery. His fortune takes a tumble and a turn for the worst. In a final last resort effort he is invited to revive his practice by attending a gala dinner sponsored by Pharm-O-Next a drug company prescribing a new miracle wonder drug proven to wean alcoholics off the bottle. All physicians and dentists in attendance have either bought into the miraculous pharmaceutical or are about to on a free cruise including Dr Lear actually in clinical trials himself. Dr Gum is not convinced and continues to investigate the relatively unknown company. He discovers not only does Pharm-O-Next not exist, but that it is a covert cover up of the CIA. Back at it, testing a new truth drug in the post 9/11 era. They plan to infiltrate all the physician’s patient files to weed out suspected terrorists. How far will they probe in their invasion of privacy and violation of civil rights to protect the public? Can Dr Gum discover who pillaged his practice? He becomes a marked man, an enemy of the state, in the sinister international conspiracy. Can he uncover the truth in time and regain his independence?
DENTINATOR
With unlimited funding at their disposal following the capture of Osama bin Laden discovered in a remote region of Pakistan by a team of field physicians taking and analyzing blood samples of patients with their ‘dentoanalyzers’ a lap top type diagnostic device. Dr Gum and his colleagues have devised the next generation in medical dental simulators, a nuclear powered human like droid or ‘dentinator’ to assist in clinical procedures. Five of the top students from the University of Texas are tweaking their dentinators including a few promising physicians who narrowly escape the war torn region of African to attend the meeting. Several international entries are included in the upcoming scientific conference in Las Vegas. Half way around the globe a Soviet nuclear and biochemical facility is deliberately infiltrated by a group of insurgents. They manage to steal enough material to procure several deadly dirty bombs. Their operation goes undetected from UAV reconnaissance buying them precious time to perfect their deadly devices in remote regions of southern Russia and the Middle east. They intend to deliver their ‘science project’ in a cleverly concealed disguised form bound to stump the tight security services present at the scientific meeting. The carefully orchestrated operation takes the artifacts around the globe toward it’s ultimate destination. Dr Gum and a few of his colleagues discover a colleague in the medical dental curriculum has disappeared. Are they who they claimed to be? The dean is perplexed. All the research funding is pouring into endodontics.. He has made a fortune perfecting his prominent patients in New York. His staff cannot keep up with the philanthropist. Dr Shine bumps into Dr Gum at a colleagues funeral. Dr Q has vanished and buried in absentia following an unexplained disaster in the Caribbean. He offers Dr Gum a position to join him at NYU and leave the implant dentistry behind. Dr Gum and his assistant Christie visit him and are fascinated with the incredible advances but are not convinced. No matter, Dr Shine urges Dr Gum to visit a sister clinic in Singapore, Stemtronics. Loosely based on Biopolis, the aspiring best research facility in the world where he meets Dr Lee. The budding scientist and prize pupil is being groomed by the Confucian master of the stem cell center, Dr Sunwah. Back in New York Dr Shine is dabbling in every imaginable altruistic and pleasurable pursuit including a film production of ‘Deadly Fall’. One of the aspiring actresses comes to the clinic for a referral, her curiosity piqued by the charismatic dentist. She discovers another side of the elusive endodontist. In Singapore Drs Gum and Lee uncover the identity of a promising scientist. The recent acquisition is not who he appears to be. They delve deeper into the dilemma to discover a deep dark deadly secret of Stemtronics and must put a stop to it!
PULLING STRINGS
Dr Gum discovers aunt Mae has an inoperable brain tumor. As a last resort he brings her to the PBT (Proton Beam Therapy) clinic in Loma Linda. With a proven track record since 1990 having saved about 50,000 patients from certain death and eliminated the insidious chemo and radiation therapy. The principles were pioneered from across technology transfer almost 50 years old discovered by Dr Wilson. The original principles were applied to develop the world’s first particle accelerator. Dr Steinbohr and Dr Gum fire up the apparatus, a highly precise 4D scalpel which emits protons directly into the tumor site evading essentially all normal tissue. A power surge shocks the two. Aunt Mae has disappeared, likely gone to the washroom or frightened by the large 100 ton donut shaped magnet to deliver the prescribed dose. The hospital staff is stumped, there is no sign of aunt Mae. Where has she disappeared? No one has seen her leave. A budding pesky physics student mr Parsons, suggests she may have passed through into a parallel universe. They shrug off his crazy comment. Yet there is no other logical explanation. The scientists at CERN have just fired up the world’s largest particle accelerator in the Swiss Alps. They join in the desperate search for Dr Gum’s missing aunt. Meanwhile aunt Mae surfaces in a strange medical facility, in a confusing reversed parallel society. She feels she needs her eyes examined as well. The concerned scientists at CERN make a startling discovery which may help them locate aunt Mae. Mr Parsons and a team at enterprising physicists at Stanford devise a sophisticated system to track her in what appears to be a parallel universe in the nth dimension. Can they conceivably find her, then bring her back alive? Can they prove any of the peculiar events ever occurred?
MELTDOWN
Dr Gum has accepted the invitation to Severodvinsk, the largest Russian naval shipyard for the opening ceremonies and launch of the first six pack. A fleet of FNPPs (Floating Nuclear Power Plants) The twin reactors mated to a cruiser class vessel generate enough electricity to light up a city of 250,000 and desalinate 250,000 gallons/ day. The bold initiative of president Putemkin has promised to light up the north of Russia and open the NE passage. The maiden voyage of the fleet has sparked fears, formidable sitting ducks for terrorists? A floating Chernobyl waiting to happen? Dr Gum meets Dr Svetlana Kocheno, the nuclear watch dog of Rosatom the Russian nuclear energy agency. Having lost her parents in the awful Chernobyl incident she has sworn to prevent a similar event from ever happening again. An uneventful launch allows the two to get acquainted and explore the city. Their tour is short lived as she is beeped back on board. A mysterious guidance glitch coupled with a software steering system shocks her. Her inspection turns up nothing. Meanwhile in New York’s Russia Room, a Russian scientist is defecting and seeking academic immunity to turn over the plans of the promising power generating concept. He faces certain death on treason charges if he returns. Continuous course changes raises questions of an impending mutiny or terrorist act. A scheduled delivery of vital equipment to Greenland’s Ice grip project is nearly aborted due to the bizarre aberrations in the ship’s steering. Their mistaken identity causes a calamity for the producer/director filming on location near Cadarache. In a pinch, he selects the mafioso mastermind and his mistress to replace the respected actors who are being grilled by Clouseau. So close yet no cigar for Clouseau. The film reaches a catastrophic climax albeit salvageable. Next year’s blockbuster at the Cannes film festival? GLAZERS
A series of seemingly unrelated albeit bizarre occurrences around the globe begin to cause local health care providers concern. The events seem to coincide with a strange meteor strike in a world biosphere reserve in Cuatro Cienegas in northern Mexico during a deadly solar flare. Dr Gum and a colleague, Dr Slater, return from Kingston Peak in Death Valley with a sample of ‘stromatolites’, billion year old living fossils’ to the MCF (Meteorite Curation Facility) in Houston. Dr Slater comes down with a disease of unknown origin. In Shark’s Bay western Australia a group of school children on their first field trip gather some intriguing artifacts like dinosaur fossils and soon find themselves suffering from some form of SARS flu? At RIBS, the Research Institute of Bahamian Stromatolites, a bizarre ‘bite’ or encounter with an underwater entity cause alarm. They notify the CDC and NASA about the discovery. The Antarctic expedition into Mars meteorites is rushed backed to the MCF to deploy to Mexico in the intense investigation of the meteor. Several of the soldiers and troops stationed there have succumbed to a strange form of ‘space sickness’ or ‘alien flu’. In Lagao Sagado, a crystal clear pool in Brazil, the stromatolites infect anyone who comes in contact with them. Themedical authorities send out a desperate plea for help. Two members of the graduating class of medical students at NYU return to the Lester petrified forest in Sarasota Springs and are infected with ‘poison ivy’? The specialists are stumped by the strange viral infection that does not respond to any conventional treatment. What are they up against? An unexplained physiological phenomena causes greater concern about it’s unknown origin and possible cure as the global pandemic spreads unchecked. Can it be stopped?
GOD ALMIGHTY
Dr Gum discovers himself in a dusty dilapidated empty one room classroom somewhere in Africa. A middle aged woman presumably the teacher is writing something on the blackboard. Dr Gum asks “where the hell am I?” the teacher snaps “watch the language!” He soon discovers the wise old owl knows everything about him then declares only God would know that! She laughs and responds “Bingo, why who were you expecting, George Burns?” The befuddled dentist doesn't know what to make of the situation he finds himself in as he awaits the first students. God, a splitting image of Oprah Winfrey has decided to take a well deserved holiday and place Dr Gum in charge of the class and perform her monstrous task in her absence. Answer the billions of unanswered prayers, perform a few million miracles and simply take care of business. At first he considers the gift of God a farce performing a few simple stunts. He soon discovers he has the power of the Almighty as he leads the students on an unbelievable field trip throughout the dark continent. He realizes he can truly make a difference in the lives of the little ones as well as many of the malnourished, malaria ridden citizens in all regions. He addresses rampant famine, poverty and disease in dynamic, resourceful albeit at times zany, comical solutions. The tour continues by plane, train and automobile as they cover a colossal distance not without it's death defying obstacles. The deliberator receives some sound advice from Oprah er God who drops in periodically to track his progress. He performs her duties flawlessly even inspiring the Omnipotent One. The adventure ends in a near catastrophic climax caused by a rebellious film crew. Dr Gum finds himself back in familiar surroundings in LA for a grande finale.
ALLIGATOR ALLEY
Dr Paul Jacobs, the rebellious scientist, has risen through the ranks from his humble beginnings at Edison College named after the inventive genius. Through his formative years at Nova Southeastern dental school and his dynamic study of birth defects. His combined medical PhD degrees in molecular genetics from Miami University is received with mixed skepticism. His pioneering work and the discovery of ‘alliglobulins’ in alligator blood is shunned by the medical establishment. He distances himself from the non believers at the fringe of the Everglades. A former flame from college and aspiring actress from Hollywood Florida, Katherine decides to look him up. Her perpetual preoccupation with her physical appearance leads her to Paul for her regular botox fix. He shows her his pioneering projects. She is pleased by his performance and reciprocates with a timely reward. She disappears with a handful of syringes marked BA - botox A and AB - alligator blood. She mistakenly injects herself prior to a dinner date at the Gator Club awaiting her feisty cougars and Dr Gum who she met while lounging around the pool of the Hyatt Hotel earlier that day. She eagerly anticipates Dr Gum’s arrival in his Cadillac Allante convertible rental. The car is stolen by a former boyfriend who shows up in the parking lot of the Club. She floors her XLR, with jealous boyfriend in hot pursuit in a state wide chase across Florida. The race ends tragically in Alligator Alley as both cars sail off the narrow desolate highway. Or does it? A series of bizarre alligator attacks alarms the local authorities in a sophisticated state wide hunt! Katherine resurfaces periodically. What is happening to her? Is she responsible for all the attacks?
THE SCRYING

The dentist, aspiring author, Dr Gum, is dying to pen a best seller at a quaint rustic Prominence O'Way haunted hotel in a remote mountain retreat in Wutherington with his new (fictitious) wife, Roxy. Running Deer (RD), a native Blackfoot maintenance/medicine man, the lone attendant ushers them to their spacious accommodations. They grab some groceries in town before it shuts down for a long, desolate, isolated interlude in the off season. At Crypt Landing, RD introduces them to the history of the hotel, a 'tale from the crypt?' An ominous vision and warning prompts him to quickly return to the hotel to light a peace pipe. Enroute to the hotel which is ever present everywhere, a prominent fixture atop the mesa, they pass the Killroy Lodge. Dr Gum notices the innkeeper hang a shingle askew, K I L L R O _ Y, like a bizarre hangman's game that sets the tone. RD checks them into a Lakeview Suite, several floors below the haunted room, overlooking the 7 story lobby, where two staff jumped to their deaths, a third ghost, the victim's death a mystery, while the 4th, the chef's wife, a victim of his culinary shenanigans wanders the Stuart Dining Room. In the Weeping Willow Lounge, RD shuffles a native tarot card deck to ascertain their anticipated adventure. A respectable ritual or smoke and mirrors? The CHAOS card surfaces, a black stallion rising from the flames. The 8 of VESSELS, the DRUNK, as Roxy peers apprehensively around the well stocked bar. The 10 of AIRS, a flock of vultures swooping down on their bloody prey, and the DEATH card, the buffalo accompanied by an owl. An ominous foreboding warning, prophetic prophecy of upcoming events? The weather soon takes a turn for the worst, leaving the town of Wutherington buried under 2 feet of snow. No way out? Events rapidly spiral out of control in the hotel, claustrophobia, another culinary catastrophe? and utter human depravity delegated by the demonic spirits that reside in the regal residence determined to drive them to their deaths like all the other former guests?
